My grandmother was my best friend and my mentor and she always told me if I ever pursue a career in the care field, I should opt for elderly care. She played a big role in my decision to follow this kind of career but because of my limited education and no ability to follow any programs at the moment I don’t meet the qualifications to be hired as a CNA.
Despite that, I still want to follow in this path as far as I can get. I strive to be compassionate and understanding with everyone in my life, I stand by kindness and I think growing older is a beautiful part of life and that it should be treated with the same compassion as any other care job.
The most important part of caregiving to me is to be a friend that you can call on. Not only for physical support but for connection as well.

Most of my experience comes from her, but I was recognized as her caregiver not just self claimed. While she is the only live-in person I have cared for, there has been several times in my life where I’ve found myself helping care for other people, mostly from personal connections. Friends, Neighbors, etc.
