Hello, my dad is 87 and living in a nice senior living community in Troy. He has early stage dementia symptoms, but he loves to keep up on the latest Detroit sports and national political news. I think he might enjoy speaking with a young man on occasion to talk about these issues. The political part need not be polemic as he doesn't have strong or radical views, but just likes to keep up on what is happening around the country. Such conversations about the Lions, Tigers, or the latest news out of Washington might help keep his mind sharp and be enjoyable.
I need to convince him to give this a try, so probably would not start until late spring or early summer. I am thinking it could start off biweekly and see how it goes.
A visit could be just for an hour or two, and it could all be in a common area of his living community, or perhaps the companion would be willing to take him out to a nearby cafe for a different environment for the chat. All food/refreshment costs covered.
