I have babysat throughout my life however I gained most of my experience through au-pairing while in Europe. I first lived in Vienna, Austria for the first year and took care of three lovely children ages three, seven, and twelve. A normal day consisted of waking up the children in the morning, preparing breakfast then I would bring the two eldest to school and bring the little one with me. During the day, the two of us would go exploring, go for walks and of course play. We would then pick the two eldest up from school and go home where I would prepare a meal. If their parents were out for the night we would get homework done, I would occasionally bring the eldest to her swimming lessons, and would cook dinner after. Putting the kids to bed was rough sometimes, as these children were a rowdy bunch but Read more I would them down by reading a bedtime story, play some calming music, and/or prepare a steamer. I would consistently practice the children's English with them throughout the day, which was the main purpose of my nannying for this family. I am fluent in German as well, so it made it really easy to translate and explain the English and German languages to the kids. I have also au paired for a one year old girl in Cologne, Germany for about six months, which mostly consisted of watching her and putting her down for naps as her mother would work from home. I also lived in Spain for about a year (with an Irish family) where I would also bring the kids to school/prepare meals/clean the house whole the kids were at school. After my time abroad in Europe, I went to Thailand where I volunteered as an English teacher for Thai children at a school. I did this for three months and absolutely loved it.
