Meet Rachel

Hey, my name is Rachel and I am 27 years old. I am the oldest of my four siblings and grew up being their built in babysitter which is where my childcare experience began. I’ve always enjoyed working with children as it’s such a fulfilling job to watch them grow and see how you took part in their development. At age 16 and 17 I held a job as a referee for children’s sports from a range of ages (3 - 14 years). From there I moved on from working with kids for a long while minus babysitting family members’ children here and there. It wasn’t until recently that I worked in childcare again. In August I began working at Lilac City Early Learning Center in Spokane. During this time I underwent a background check + fingerprinting, renewed my cpr + first aid certification, took a 30hr STARS class on Read more childcare, received a blood borne pathogens certification, went through several conscious discipline modules and received a ton of hands on experience with ages ranging from infants to five year olds. The daycare I worked in practiced conscious discipline, which is why we had the modules on it and I found it to be very aligned with my view of kids and how I want to parent my own daughter. I believe kids need help working through their emotions and to find constructive ways to do that. Working at the center gave me a lot of ideas for redirecting children towards better choices when experiencing big emotions. I went on maternity leave mid December and returned to the center in May. My partner and I moved to Shoreline at the beginning of the month, thus I quit working at the center and thought I would enjoy working with one family and their children fulltime. Now my daughter is 6months old and I am looking for a childcare position where I could bring her with me everyday so she can interact with your children and vice versa. In the classrooms at Lilac City there would be 4 infants per teacher, 8 toddlers per teacher, and 10 preschool/pre-k kids per teacher and so I am very used to watching after and corralling a lot of kids at once, however, I would prefer working in a home with three kids maximum (any ages). It would also be wonderful if you happened to have a child around six months old and then I could have Leia on the same schedule as them but not a problem if you don’t!
