I began working with children in theatre context when I was 15 and grew to love and appreciate the creativity and joy that children bring to everything they do. In college I continued to work with children by nannying and working with the YMCA's childcare program. My childcare experience includes short-term babysitting for multiple families with children ranging from ages 1 to 11. However, the bulk of my experience lies in my year nannying for a family with three little boys, ages 8 month, 2 years, and 4 years, who became very dear to me. In this position I was responsible for ensuring the boys got a balanced meal for lunch and dinner, time outdoors in the yard or at the park, light housekeeping, transportation to and from pre-school, managing the shenanigans the brothers could get up to, and helping the 2 year old with speech therapy. In a classroom Read more setting, I was the Education Coordinator for a student-run theatre company, a position that I held for 2 years at the end of high school after spending 2 years directing small-scale theatre shows for our elementary and middle school targeted children's summer camp. I gained experience in the logistics of teaching children and leading craft and creative activities. Continuing this path, I worked with the YMCA of Greater Seattle as a Kids Zone staff member, implementing STEM and arts mini-lessons with children aged 4 months to 12 years. Keeping kids engaged and safe was the priority here, and provided me with the chance to learn how to draft basic lesson plans and adapt on the spot to follow the lead of the kiddos while ensuring they gain valuable lessons. With my nannying family and my role at the YMCA I got the opportunity to work with non-verbal autistic children, and learn the complexities of communication and how to make things fun and accessible for every kid. I have just finished my bachelors in archaeology and evolutionary biology, and love learning about science and history. I also have a passion for cooking and baking, and spending time outdoors whether it be cycling or hiking. Sharing these passions while learning and growing with the kids in my care is a great joy, and I would be thrilled to get the chance to teach and learn with new kiddos.
