Biography: My name is Angelica Guterson and I am from Bainbridge Island, WA. With the exception of attending Western Washington University (Bellingham, WA) I have lived on Bainbridge my whole life. As a child, I was Waldorf homeschool, and public school educated, and I feel very fortunate to have had such diverse educational experiences. For me, however, the years I spent going to a Waldorf school left the biggest impression and ultimately have led me here: the beginning of my teacher training. My passion for Waldorf started in the 9th grade when I began doing some volunteering and observing in the kindergarten class at Madrona School. I helped with painting prep and clean up that year, and throughly enjoyed each encounter. I did not attend a Waldorf preschool or kindergarten as a child, so the experience of being in the early childhood classroom felt new and exciting. I remember feeling Read more that there was nothing like being in the classroom, and when it was time to leave I never wanted to go. I continued working in the kindergarten throughout high school, and in my senior year designed an independent study project around Waldorf education. In addition to volunteering and observing in the classroom, I created a temperaments study aimed at determining where each kindergartener fell on the temperaments scale. In addition, I read child development and Steiner articles. In all, I gained a further appreciation for Waldorf education. In between my sophomore and junior year of college, I returned to Madrona School as a kindergarten assistant, which confirmed for me my attraction. In June, 2016, I graduated from college, only to find myself back at Madrona working in the preschool. With the end of the school year fast approaching, I feel that my desires and aspirations have aligned and I feel confident and very pleased with my decision to pursue my training and become a Waldorf teacher.
