Hi! My name is Avery Johnson, and I am currently an Elementary Education major at VCU! During my time away from VCU, I worked as a lead teacher for the Tabernacle Child Care Center for almost two years. I have classroom experience with toddlers and Pre-K aged children and try to incorporate mini lessons and activities when I babysit! I have been babysitting children since about 2018, ranging from 8 week old twins to middle schoolers! I also worked at the Doggie Day Camp at Petsmart for about a quarter of year and used to volunteer at animal shelters, so I’m very comfortable with all pets! When I’m not babysitting or doing my coursework, I love going to see musicals, doing game nights with my friends, singing karaoke, or going on nature walks. In terms of availability, I am able to do most week days and weekends with a few Read more exceptions for holidays or personal events. I will be starting as the lead Pre-K teacher at the Creative Learning Center in late June, so my availability will change based on that position. My approach to child care is to mimic an authoritative parenting style. I make sure that children continue to follow the routines and practices already taught in the household but I stay sensitive and responsive to their needs and allow a space for communication and compromise (even if they’re not old enough to understand what a compromise is). The only real conflict is that I do not own my own car since I am student who lives on an urban campus, but I have been able to manage with ride share services! I hope that I can be the right fit for your household :)
