I absolutely love working with kids because I really connect, and establish great relationships with them. I consistently volunteered at blackwell community center near my school, which is an after school program for kids 5-15. The staff there were really lazy and did not do their job so even though I started out doing hours for my alpha psi honor society, i enjoyed working there and repeatedly went back to help out, i wound organize group games, work on social skills, and find other options on asking for things the right way, with the ones who were a little harder to get to listen. Even the parents thanked me and loved my work. The director wanted to hire me , but it wouldn't co-exist with my school and basketball schedule. I just enjoy caring for people and helping people with problems, that is another thing I am studying. I have a Read more little sister I take to the park, I like to take her to toys r us for good grades, and just laugh with her, she comes to me about advice on school often and I love helping her with homework. My family doesn't really do a fantastic job on helping with homework and not telling her the answers. I started off with a summer job as a receptionist, at sunrise senior living, It was a very interesting experience but I loved every minute being there, I got to learn new things, and mainly work with the senior residents. They were sweet, but being as though they have dementia, alzheimers, Parkinson's, etc there were many incidents, and as being a part of my job i would have to always calm them down, help them locate a purse they hid in their room and forgot where they put it, go looking for them outside, prepare bingo, as well as deal with the most extreme cases, where a resident would see invisible people with names and just dealing with it and controlling the situation. The hardest part was leaving because they really got attached to me, come up to my desk everyday, joke around have group talks, I would even go in their rooms from time to time to spend time with them or talk about their issues or dealing with them missing family, or just to drink tea and watch the news. Although I was real busy, I always found the time to care for the residents which brought a smile to not only my face but the family members as well.
