I believe that children learn through trust. This trust is a two-way street, as the children must trust the teacher to keep them safe, happy, and healthy, and the teacher must trust the children as competent learners and individuals. The image one holds of a child conducts one’s teaching practices. I trust children with their learning; it is up to me to see their actions and find the value in them, not up to them to prove to me the value in their actions. I believe that children learn by taking risks. Children cannot simply be told their limits, because what good is the word of someone else on what you are and are not capable of? Ensuring that children thrive in a safe environment is my first priority, but this safety is what provides the children with opportunities for risk taking. I believe that children learn by having fun. Read more Making up song, playing with them, making jokes, this is all part of the human experience. My job is not only to build on their learning and support them in reaching developmental goals, but also to help them establish their identity as a person. When learning and playing in a fun environment, one is given the opportunity to show their authentic self to the people around them. By fostering the exhibition of their true selves, children can feel confident in who they are, what they do, and how they do it.
