Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me personally and professionally. Growing up in my family there were always babies being passed around at family functions. I was the youngest in my immediate family, the only daughter and I loved babies! I learned how to change my first neices diapers during Easter dinner, how to burp my cousins after Christmas breakfast and how to settle a loud colicky baby before the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. As I grew up so did the those who were under me in age, my love for babies grew as my neice took her first steps in my bedroom and said her first words (her third word was my name). My baby cousins turned into toddlers running around getting into trouble and I ran right behind them. I took up the responsibility with my older cousins and aunts of wrangling the kids down Read more for naps in my grandma's room during the gatherings and eventually when I entered highschool I was offered payment by family members and family friends for date nights, out of town trips and the like. I found myself enraptured with children once they were able to walk and talk and interact with me in their own unique ways as they were developing. I was deeply moved introducing them to new foods and experiences and the wonder they exhibit at things that are so mundane to us as adults. When I first started volunteering at my local library I was simply assisting guests and putting books away, but I noticed, like me there were many kids over the summer who found safe haven from the hot summer days in the library. At the time I was volunteering 8th to 11th we had weekly movie nights for the youth with snacks and games. Upon moving locations the summer of my junior year, the new space meant we had more rooms available and I suggested we start offering classes/tutoring to kids or an art class in something they found interesting ie pottery or digital art. The day after my first day of school I found myself in a room surrounded by paint and 25 eager kids ages 3-12 most of whom were familiar and some new faces, I headed the art room for two years and had my kids art featured at their schools and local festivals, I was grateful for the opportunity to encourage their creative passions finding a getaway from the stresses a highschool girl with college deadlines approaching encounters. In the past years one of my close friends has also allowed me to assist her and her kids during her pregnancies which introduced me to my passion for doula/midwife work.
