Hello, my name is Jo and I am looking for families to babysit for, I am available weekdays and weekends, daytime and nights. I have 20 years of teaching/nanny/childcare experience that ranges from newborns to young adults. I have worked as a tutor, nanny, preschool and pre-k teacher, k-8 and high school English Language Arts teacher. I am currently working as a substitute teacher, music teacher and tutor. Through my education and experience I have come to value consistency in general and with daily schedules and the knowledge that children mostly learn through example. I am a very laid back and patient person that values understanding and mutual respect with the children I am caring for. Over the past years I have developed some really special relationships with the families that I have worked for and still continue to connect and do childcare for most of them. I am a Read more graduate from PSU, Masters in Secondary Education, B.A. in English and a minor in Spanish, my first two years of college were spent studying human growth and development and child and family studies. I will continue my life as a secondary English Language Arts teacher in the future. Right now I am more focused on traveling and trying to learn more skills, i.e., gardening, reading classic literature, sustainable living, advancing my Spanish, teaching ESOL and tutoring learners who are studying for their GED. I am very active and travel all over this city on my bicycle. Also, I know Portland proper and the public transportation system very well! I do have a car, but mostly use it for out of town adventures. This city offers great classes and activities for children through the library, parks and rec. and private classes: story time at the library or messy art and music through parks and rec. Of course, it is sometimes necessary in the rainy valley to stay home and read, put on a puppet show, have an inside picnic/tea party, make arts/crafts and music. Cruising to the park via ergo, stroller, bike, trike or big wheel is a fun daily activity and also a great way to meet friends.
