I am a recent graduate of the University of Puget Sound who studied English Literature. I have been babysitting since I was 11-years-old, the age when I took the American Red Cross babysitting course. Ever since then, babysitting has been a constant throughout my life, and I have created meaningful relationships with the families with whom I have worked. I have continued to work as a babysitter even while at school, and into the year after I graduated. During the summer of 2007, I worked as a certified swim instructor through Portland Parks and Recreation. I worked with parents and infants to kids who were ten-years-old. I took both the swim instructor certification class, as well as the lifeguard certification class. That summer I honed skills on communicating with parents, and teaching a larger group of children a very specific skill. More recently, I worked as a Personal Support Worker Read more with a pair of two young adult women with special needs. I communicated with their occupational therapist on scheduling and planning outings in the community, as well as supported the special needs of these women through structured activities. I am certified as a Personal Support Worker through the state of Oregon. I just finished a 6-month-long service term with AmeriCorps, where I was placed at a grade school in the Portland area. During this time I worked for the grade schools' SUN after-school program. During the school year I taught a wellness class for 3rd and 4th graders, a leadership class for girls, and assisted a girls running club. During the summer I taught a creative writing class. I also assisted an Early Kindergarten Transition program, both in the classroom and during the process of recruiting families to be part of the program. I also observed the parent class for this program, taught by the school counselor. I am a reliable, creative, and caring young woman who has a passion for working with children.
