I taught a first-grade classroom of 22 children following a common core aligned curriculum. I design, write, and implement lesson plans for a variety of subjects including language, reading, science, and math. I document each student's progress by updating weekly reports. I modify assignments, homework, and tests for students with individualized education programs. What makes my teaching experience special is that 21 out of my 22 students are English language learners and only speak Spanish at home. Not only do I get to teach students a new language and how to engage with it, I also am engaging in their language and culture that is different from my own.
