She had her rate set at $13/hr and she seemed very happy to take the job at a starting rate of $16/hr, working around her hours/week constraints and that she doesn’t want to do early mornings, doesn’t want to work a full time job. Then, I assume as I brought up that many nanny/house managers, were asking ridiculous rates of $30+/hr (usually for special needs/infant care), she texted me later that night, after already having accepted my job, saying that her “babysitting” rare would be $14/hr but her “nanny” rate is $18-19/hr and that she knows people who are being paid $22-24/hr. I explained that given she has no availability during the week to start before 2pm and that she only wanted 3 shifts/week max, that the job she was hired for IS babysitting, not nanny/house management which requires true experience, training and full availability. She brought her resume written on multiple 4x6” sticky notes and most of her work experience is as a restaurant server. Overall, very unprofessional, definitely did not know the difference between a babysitter and nanny/house manager when it comes to time available and job requirements. She just felt she should be paid more as she’s older and has been in the workforce longer. I offered her a starting rate well above her asking rate plus she was aware that for the first year, I do every 3 month performance reviews and bonuses/raises yet she STILL texted me that same night and tried to say that she made a mistake and her nanny rate is $18-22/hr. She absolutely is a babysitter, not a nanny, not a house manager. I also got the impression that her idea of being active with my son would involve driving him to the playground (easily walkable from my home) and that crafts, real cooking, meal prep, museum trips, initiating an education program, taking him to a swim or Rolly Pollies class etc would be WAY outside her comfort zone.
