Hi! My name is Asha Dwyer and I’m currently a senior at Rutgers University New Brunswick. I’m planning on getting my masters in social work with a minor in criminology. I take a very therapeutic approach to childcare, being that empowerment is the main focus of social work I believe it’s important to start uplifting children and teaching them the skills they need to love and connect with themselves while they are young. (In the most fun (and age appropriate) way of course!) My background in working with children includes: When I worked at Cedarbrook Daycamp as a counselor for three years; during my time there I worked closely with 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, and 7th graders. My daily activities consisted of keeping them entertained the entire day, changing them for water activities, making sure they ate lunch/snack, and solving minor disputes. I’ve also worked at Matheny Medical and Educational Read more Center as a paraprofessional for students with severe physiological disabilities ages 2-20. During my time there I learned how to change diapers/feed the students, deliver specialized education, and encouraged the students to be excited about learning. Furthermore I’ve worked with teenagers and young adults in the after school program for the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center on Rutgers campus. During my time there I worked one on one with students on the autism spectrum. I’d accompany them on trips to the mall, bowling, pumpkin patch, etc, making sure they had a good time and a friend by their side to help them in any activity. Lastly, I am an assistant track coach for Maximum Speed Track Club. I have lots of experience with kids of all ages and have always been able to connect and engage. I love art of all forms, games, nature, sports, however, I also know when it’s time to do work and can be of great assistance. I have excellent writing skills and can help children with any English or reading homework. I’m good at communicating being that I’ve been a receptionist for three years and am very reliable. I babysit for one family 2:30-6:30, three days a week and am looking to babysit for another family as well since I have the time. I have been vaccinated and don’t mind adhering to any guidelines you may have to protect you and your family. Let’s chat!
