I’m Shawn NeSmith, a passionate early childhood educator with a focus on play-based, nature-centered learning. For the past several years, I’ve been the Lead Teacher at Chapel Hill Cooperative Preschool, where I design and implement innovative curricula that promote sustainability, literacy, and outdoor education. My background in physical education, along with my experience as a Peace Corps volunteer, has shaped my approach to child development and community involvement. In addition to teaching, I mentor fellow educators, lead fundraising initiatives, and build partnerships with local organizations to enhance resources for our programs. I’m certified in Early Childhood Outdoor Learning and am deeply committed to fostering holistic development through nature-based and experiential learning. Outside of my work in early childhood education, I am involved with Scouts of America, where I hold leadership roles and focus on youth protection and wilderness first aid training.
