Hi! Currently -- and for the past five years -- I've been working as a private duty CNA and in-home Caregiver for elderly and disabled people in a wide variety of circumstances and situations. (To work with the agencies and top retirement communities that I work in, one has to have spotless background checks.) Before that, I developed fun and educational toys for children. My elderly patients mostly have dementia (or extreme fragility) so caring for them requires attentiveness, calmness, understanding, cheerfulness, love, and great patience. They need the same things that young children need: help getting dressed; meal prep; feeding; diaper-changing; bathing; reminders; tucking into bed; cleaning/organizing their things... And LOTS of kindness and patience, with an occasional gentle firmness. I'm good at all that! Because the above transfers well to child care, I took a rigorous college course online on current Child Development to brush up on my Read more 'decades-past' college Psychology/Child Development minor. Am excited to use this practical knowledge. I'm semi-retired and I like to stay busy. I'm a Grandma, but the kids are currently overseas, so I miss helping with young ones. Love children! (Especially preschoolers.) I'm healthy, fit, plenty of energy. And have flexible free time/availability. Have lots of interesting books and toys for all ages -- which I can bring along. I love to read aloud and help children read and learn. (Colors, letters, hands-on math, cooking, essay writing, arts and crafts, even chess!). The huge wooden train set is a major hit! Successfully homeschooled my two children. Can tutor up through Middle School, and SATs. Also love to go outdoors, in the yard or neighborhood playgrounds and parks. Experience: in addition to raising two children, and helping with 2 grandchildren -- In high school, I babysat for nearly all the children in our neighborhood, was a Girl Scout Day Camp Counselor with full charge of eight 9-year-old girls, had a Red Cross Lifesaving Swimming Certification, and taught horseback riding lessons. Currently hold a First Aid and CPR Certificates. The upscale Senior Communities (where I work through an agency) require stringent background and drug checks, which I always pass. My goal is for your children to have a good time, learn something new and stay safe! Sue Miller
