I have been "working" (I think it's more like "playing") as a baby-sitter ever since my freshman year of high school. I enjoyed getting to know those first girls and managing the household while I was on duty and continued to baby-sit through high school, college, and as a side hobby outside of my daytime job as a teacher. Over the past twenty years, I have cared for children of every age ranging from four days old to teens. I especially enjoy preschoolers and elementary students. I recently married and moved to Asheville. I have been assisting my husband as he works at home, but I miss working with children and would appreciate an opportunity to spend time with children once again. I take baby-sitting very seriously. One of my favorite college professors once said that "humans are not growing, we are becoming." I believe that this especially applies to children and that Read more each life experience, whether good or bad, contributes to the persons they become. With this in mind, I treat even the most mundane chores as life experiences and teaching opportunities. Parents quickly find that I do not only provide fun interactions for their children, but I also establish limits and healthy boundaries. This combination makes for a very comfortable and pleasant atmosphere for all three parties involved - the children, the baby-sitter, and the parents. I also recognize that parents have busy and full lives. Therefore, I make my best effort to keep the house picked up, the dishes washed, and the trash emptied while I am on watch. I have earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in special education. I taught special education curriculum to students in both middle school and high school environments for ten years. I have also worked as a teacher in a day-care, a classroom assistant in a preschool, and as a leader/activity director at a summer program for elementary-aged students. In general, I am a pleasant, energetic, and caring person - especially around kids. I enjoy reading, hiking, cooking, and world studies and try to find opportunities to incorporate these things into activities that I do with the children in my care.
