Hi! My name is A’Dana Smith. I am a college graduate of UMKC. I have my degree in Biology with a concentration of Premed. I am currently receiving my masters in medical science in a hybrid program. I will be graduating from this program in December 2022. My goal is to apply to medical school summer of 2023 and start medical school summer of 2024. I use to play volleyball, soccer and basketball. I played all three sports for over 8 years starting around 5th grade to 12th grade. So I understand being active and involved in sports, and can be super supportive when it comes to that as well. My childcare experience: I have been babysitting since I was 13 years old. My babysitting experience started off with my twins cousins who are about 5 years younger than, leading to my nephew as well as my niece who came Read more along 3 years later. During high school as a freshmen, I babysat 3 siblings ( twins - 6 months, and their 5 year old brother) once every week on a Friday night, while their parents had date night. While in high school I worked at a community center where I worked in the tot care area. I cared for kids as young as 1 years old to 8 years old in that tot care center. My time spent in the tot care area with them would include watching movies, coloring and crafting. I worked at this community center about 5 years total. Shortly before I started college I decided to work at the childcare camp that they had over the summer called 'Young Explorers. This camp included kids ranging from 3 years old to 5 years old. During this time with the kids for the whole summer everyday I would come in at 7am and work morning care that included both older (the big camp-imagination station) and younger kids. After morning care, I would be with the younger explorers from 9am to 12 pm. During camp we did crafts, swim day once a week, played at the playground, played group games to get to know each other and have snack time. The following, summer 2018, I was selected to be the director of Young Explorers in which my role consisted of planning all activities for the kids, as well as staying up to date with allergies of each child, taking attendance everyday each week (because we had a new set of kids each week) instructing my three counselors on the set of kids they would have to directly care for to make it less overwhelming for everyone, picking out snacks and overall making sure the environment was safe for them.
