Hello, my name is Abigail Baughman and I am originally from Jefferson City. I am going to school here in Springfield at Missouri State University. I have immense experience with working with children. For the past six years, I have worked with both able bodied children and children with special needs at a business called Healing Horses. Additionally, I have recently been employed by the Willard School District as a Tiger Tales teacher, where I provided care to children before and after school. Throughout my high school years, I have been employed as a babysitter as well for multiple families.

Abigail seemed like a good candidate and came prepared and eager to start her job. We offered her the job paid for background and drug testing and she accepted the position. I was very excited that we had found someone who was open to starting ASAP and could be accessible. We made our schedule around her after she did a trial and told us that it was going to work out. I confirmed with her twice. 12 hours before her next shift she told us she realized we lived too far and she was too busy with her sorority and didn’t have time to work the 20’hours she committed to do, even after we went off her own school schedule exactly and had spent over an hour outlining expectations. She seemed nice enough but lacks responsibility and understanding of commitment and how much families depend on adequate and consistency for their children. I am very discouraged because this seems to be the majority of candidates in a peri-COVID world. As an essential worker it has been impossible to provide care for patients and find nannies that will help while we work to serve the community.
