Meet Kayla

I love working, reading, and playing games with children. I come from a big family so I've spent most of my life caring for the youngest children in my family. I recently graduated with a Major in Psychology and Minor in Human Development and Family Studies. I've taken numerous courses on child development. One class I had the opportunity to do toddler observations and reports, and another I had the opportunity to be a lead counselor in a toddler social intervention group where I worked on developing social skills with children who ranged from shy, talkative, and even a few with disorders (intellectually disabled, oppositional defiant disorder, attention deficit disorder, autism spectrum disorder). In addition to my course work I spent 10 hours a week in Family and Child Development Lab as an emotion coder, testing how emotion expression effects different family dyads and interactions. Additionally I gained most of Read more my child experience working for the America Reads foundation in a child center/pre-school in infant/toddler, pre-school, and kindergarten aged classrooms. I'm currently taking a year to prepare for graduate school in clinical psychology.
