I have spent the last 10+ years working with infants, children, and teens of various support needs in various capacities. My passion is working with children with high support needs and developmental disorders and I have several years of training, education, and work experience that reflect this. I enjoy the outdoors and hiking, reading, photography, writing, painting, I love music (though I've tried, my talent does not lie in playing musical instruments beyond some very basic guitar skills), and I love going on walks or adventures with my dog. I have a wide range of knowledge on many topics and love learning more as much as I love teaching others and sharing knowledge. The children I've worked with over the years have taught me more than any book or class could, and I believe remaining open to learning from others has been a major part of my growth. Every person, regardless Read more of age or ability, has a voice and deserves to be heard and this is something I strive to promote with any child I work with. Some of my biggest priorities in working with children is to encourage and support communication, promote self advocacy, foster curiosity, teach self-regulation and coping skills, support independence, and encourage exploration safely and within the individual child's abilities and goals. I am near-fluent in American Sign Language (I was fluent, but have gone some time without regular use of the language, I'm soon taking a course to refresh my language skills). One of the skills I find most valuable in working with children is my ability to switch up my energy and approach quickly. I can adjust my energy to best meet the child I'm working with or situational demands. I often draw on my range of skills and experiences from life, education, training, and work to help inform my decisions and approaches. I continuously seek to improve and learn more, I strive to find a flow that works with each child, and I maintain open communication to develop the best approach with each family and child. I enjoy watching the children I work with learn and grow, and I am always so honored to be part of that process.
