Meet Kaycie

My name is Kaycie, and I’m currently finishing up my last semester of nursing school through Columbia University in New York, studying to become a midwife. I have many hobbies (past and present) and passions including dancing, being a member of marching bands and concert bands through school for 10+ years playing flute, reading, cooking and baking, and learning Spanish. I would say that becoming a midwife is my life’s purpose, and I have so much fervor for reproductive justice and health care quality and access. I grew up in Kansas as the oldest and only girl to two brothers, then I moved to North Carolina to attend Duke University for my undergraduate education in biology and global health. I then went to New York City to Columbia University for my graduate education in nursing and nurse midwifery, where I have attained a Master’s of Science and Doctorate in Nursing Read more Practice degrees. I have now recently moved to Baltimore and am desiring to connect more with the Baltimore community, partially through providing childcare and babysitting services. My experience with babysitting has spanned over a decade of my life, with my first babysitting positions being babysitting a pair of sisters whom I met through teaching at my dance studio when I was a teenager. Then, when I went to Duke, I quickly gained a position as a teacher’s assistant at a Quaker-style school for children aged 3-6, where I supported the teachers and children with snacks, nap time, field trips, playing, educational activities, and many more for four years. Most recently, I worked as the school nurse and health care coordinator for a Head Start program in Harlem, NYC. In that role, I provided medical care and education opportunities to children ages birth to 6 years, interacting with them daily through greeting them at school and visiting their playgrounds. Being a nurse and a soon-to-be midwife, I’ve also had extensive experience with working with sibling sets and helping children adjust to changes like additional siblings and other big changes to their lives. Being a nurse has also provided me with many medical skills like being CPR certified and certified in neonatal resuscitation. All of this experience with children has not only given me a competency and passion for cultivating the minds, hearts, and souls of young children, but also for having comfort ability snd awareness on how to foster children’s learning, health, and independence in a safe and secure way. I view babysitting as a way to connect with children that enriches their life experiences and delight. I would be absolutely appreciative and honored to get an opportunity to provide babysitting to your family!
