Meet Javlyn

Hello! My name is Javlyn, I use she/her pronouns, and I am from Quincy, Massachusetts. I’m an incoming sophomore at Northeastern University in Boston. I am majoring in political science with the aspiration of becoming a lawyer. I am very passionate about social justice, music, and dance just to name a few of my interests. I have worked with children in the past and I believe that my experience in mentoring, leading, and teaching kids makes me a perfect candidate to be a caregiver.  I spent most of my life dancing at a studio, eventually competing and interning when I was old enough. I joined the intern program when I was 12 and continued until age 16. I taught various dance styles (ballet, tap, jazz, acrobatic dance, and hip hop) to dancers aged 2-10. I mentored these kids for ten months of the year, (when dance was in session) and Read more loved watching them grow. I created classroom plans, worked with other teen interns to choreograph and brainstorm effective teaching methods, attended several intern workshops, and comforted and assisted kids during recital week. In the summer, my studio held dance camps for kids which I also worked at. Most importantly I served as a role model and watched my mentees grow as dancers and as people. I watched kids grow into themselves and gain confidence which was the most rewarding part of my job.  A few summers ago I worked as a camp counselor and bus counselor. I rode the bus with about 15 kids aged 5-12 forty minutes away from camp to and from camp each day. I played games and talked to them, made friendship bracelets for and with them, and took attendance which was sent to a camp supervisor each morning. At camp, I oversaw about 20 second-grade girls from 8 am to 4 pm. I took them to various scheduled activities around camp along with designated lunch and snack times. I monitored them in the lake and took them to their camp dismissal spots whether that be after care, pick up lines, or bus stops. When the college counselors left for school, I was a floater and worked with other age and gender groups like fifth-grade boys, fifth-grade girls, and first grade girls. This experience really fueled my love for working with children.  Due to my experience and passion for working with youth, I believe that I am a perfect candidate to babysit your child(ren.) I have pretty flexible hours and am only looking to work between Boston and Marshfield. I hope to speak with you in the near future and provide care for your family! Best, Javlyn
