I am a retired person who enjoys working with children and families and all of my nieces and nephews are now adults. I currently work one afternoon a week for a wonderful family with three boys ages 8, 5, and 2. While I am not currently certified in first aid or CPR I was previously certified in both for a total of 15 years. I have been both a life guard and water safety instructor. I have a Masters degree in Education and completed all of the coursework for a doctorate in Social Justice Education. I left school when I was diagnosed with Cancer and simply didn't have the time or inclination to finish. I am a confident teacher with children in math, reading, arts and crafts, swimming, history, geography as well as skills such as problem solving and conflict resolution. I have worked with special needs children, though I Read more am more experienced with children with physical disabilities such as hearing loss, blindness, and cerebral palsy rather than those with learning disabilities. I am a young retiree and my cancer has been completely cured. I am a big fan of outdoor play and take the children I currently babysit to the playground most days. I am willing to help with homework and light cooking and work with children to clean up as they go. I know lots of children's songs and enjoy singing with kids. I have changed lots of diapers over the years, dealt with lots of scrapes and bumps, and tend to be a sitter who sets clear limits and boundaries and holds to them consistently. I respect family and household rules and routines and believe children thrive when boundaries are clear and consistent without curtailing children's curiosity or independence. While it was last done in 2006 as a former University employee I have cleared both Cori and Sori background checks. I have a clean driving record and I am extremely strict about car seat and seat belt usage.
