Hello, my name is Kaeli Dolen McCarthy and I hope you pick me to be the one your child spends time with! :) I have worked with children since I attended Amherst High school, from babysitting to taking Child Development courses until I graduated. I fell in love with Early Childhood Education through the Child Development courses at ARHS (Amherst Regional High School). I loved it so much I inquired the preschool teachers about what colleges in Massachusetts would specialize in Early Ed. They directed me to Wheelock College in Boston. With great references from my teacher and her co-teacher I attended Wheelock in the fall of 2009. I jumped right into the field to become a co teacher in a preschool in the Jumpstart program. Here I taught children literacy and social skills. I also had to attend many workshops, and received a certificate for the completion of the Read more year. A year later I began substiutuing at the school I was co-teaching at through my Jumpstart program. I was a floater through a program called Nurtury, where I subbed for 5 different daycares in the Boston area. I had this job for two years, and this is where I learned a great deal of all ages. From infants to age six, I learned all of the developmental domains, how the children needed to be cared for, how they interacted with each other, different material they learned. Floating helped me learn the names of the children quickly, helped me understand my role in the classroom (jumping in, being proactive), and like a switch being able to automatically know what an infant needed right then, to jumping to another room, and helping preschoolers line up for recess. I left the job a Nurtury to become a permanent teacher in a Toddler classroom of a daycare called Sunshine Academy in Brookline, Mass. I was one of three teachers in a room of nine toddlers and I instantly fell in love with the age. I stayed with the daycare for a year, where I become lead teacher certified, as well as CPR and First Aid trained; as well as received many trainings as well. I moved to Amherst back from Boston in September 2015.
