At twelve, I started babysitting for friends and family. I was capable of watching up to four young children on my own. When I was fifteen, I accompanied several families on road trips of various kinds to help care for the children. By seventeen, I was watching multiple children overnights/weekends. On occasion, I babysat for a full week while the parents traveled. At eighteen, I became a before/after school counselor and the childcare attendant at my local YMCA. A year and a half later, I replaced the K4 teacher at a feeder preschool for a prestigious private school. The only way a child could gain admission into kindergarten through a feeder school was by passing the placement tests but the students were on track to fail the test. I worked with my students, taking advantage of organic, teachable moments; creating a natural-play environment; and cultivating peer-to-peer learning moments. I was Read more deeply relieved when every one of my students passed their placement test. That summer, I landed my dream job as a private nanny. I nannied a set of premature boy/girl twins for three and a half years until my charges started preschool. Incidentally, they began Preschool at the prestigious private school for which I had prepared my preschool class three and a half years earlier. They had been on the waiting list for the preschool since their first ultrasound. Years later the boy was found to be autistic. The boy was the third child I had cared for who had autism. The first two were of a set of sisters I cared for at the YMCA childcare center. However, I wouldn’t find out until years later, respectively. I have two children of my own now. My 20 y/o son is autistic. My 17 year old son has ADHD and dyslexia. I homeschooled my 20 y/o through high school. He’s a freshman in college now while my youngest is a Jr in high school. I currently, albeit remotely, assist a friend with homeschooling her Autistic teenage daughter. Also, I keep a nonverbal toddler in my home. My desire is to provide care for 2-4 more neurodivergent, preschool aged children IN MY HOME. My entire family is certified in the prevention/recognition/advocacy of child abuse/sexual abuse. We were certified at our church through a certified facilitator. We serve in a plethora of ways in many of the children’s outreach ministries. I have many personal/professional references which will be provided upon request
