I have a long history of working with kids - as a young teenager I raised my 3 siblings, I volunteered in childcare for several years, in previous years I have worked as an assistant teacher for a Head Start program, and this year I have worked as a registered behavior therapist (RBT) for young children on the autism spectrum. I've always loved kids, and to watch them grow and learn. I am currently in the midst of my second year of earning my associates degree in Child Development. I have experience with special needs children as well - particularly those with trauma/CPTSD and/or ASD. I am currently between jobs, waiting to start my instructional assistant position at a local Montessori elementary school. I love working with children - every child has their own individual needs, interests, and passions, and I love getting to know the kids that I work Read more with and understanding their individual development. One child I've worked with has a passion for being outside and catching bugs - which led to me introducing our classroom to an isopod (pill bug) colony in it that he loved to watch and help care for. Another child had sensory issues involving loud noises and overstimulation - so our classroom developed a "safe space" where children can go to put on headphones and be apart from any potential triggers and/or noises for a while, fully stocked with a range of sensory toys and fidgets. Another child had experienced severe trauma and needed extra help communicating with teachers and other students at times. Every child has different wants and needs, and I am happy to learn more about those that I work with to help them develop and succeed!
