Hi! My name is Alexandra, but I go by Alex for short. I am majoring in Elementary Education with an endorsement in mathematics. I am in the process of transferring from Iowa State University to Drake University with the intent to enroll in Fall 2016. I have an understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate activities for children of all ages. I have 7+ years of experience working with children in different environments. Each and every experience has had its own story, there has been both positives and negatives but I believe that's just part of truly finding out what type of child he/she is. It is very similar to meeting new people and building a relationship built on trust which eventually becomes a great friendship. This may sound a little cheesy but I think before you can really see the best in people (which also goes for children), you Read more must first see the worst. I understand that there are times where children may be difficult but that doesn't mean that they deserve to marked with that stigma. I have worked with and cared for children ever since I was a freshman in high school. I worked at an after school care program beginning my freshman year until the end of my senior year. I was able to assist children from the ages of 5 to 12 with homework as well as coordinate games and activities. I have multiple families I have babysat for and nannied for in the past. In 2009, I was a summer nanny for a family of four and this past summer I have been a nanny for a family with a 7-year-old daughter. During my time in Ames, I worked at a nearby daycare where the ages of the children ranged from 1-4 years old. I worked as a camp counselor as well through Camp Fire USA which led me to change my major from psychology to Elementary education. Last spring, I was given a wonderful opportunity to work as an associate teacher at St. Joseph's Elementary School and will be returning this upcoming school year to work while I'm not in class. This has been one of the greatest experiences I have had thus far with children, mainly because it has solidified my decision in pursuing my dream of becoming a teacher.
