My most direct child care experience was part-time nannying for a family with one girl who is now 6, and one boy who is now 4. I have babysat for them sporadically since the birth of their first daughter and nannied more regularly January 2012-August 2013. We played, did crafts, colored, road bikes, went on walks, I cooked dinner, cleaned up, did bath time, read stories and tucked them in for bed on a weekly basis. During the summer of 2012, I was a childcare assistant at the YMCA in Idaho in the toddler (18 mos.-3 yrs.) classroom. My work here solidified my competency with toddlers and helped me learn to work with multiple children of the same age at the same time. I volunteer at a homeless shelter in Idaho call where I planned activity nights for the kids ages 3-16. This experience taught me a lot about working Read more with kids who are in difficult situations and therefore are sometimes hard to communicate with. I also learned about what age appropriate activities are for just about any child as I had to plan productive activities for such a variety of ages. The summer of 2010, I was an office assistant at a Montessori preschool. I learned a lot about the business of childcare and got to sit in on classrooms of a variety of ages. This helps me to help children with homework and understand the school setting they experience in the day.
