Hello! I'm a 39yo married mother-of-three, with a degree in Secondary English Education and 8 years of experience teaching in public schools. I grew up caring for siblings, working in church nursery, and babysitting. During college (and briefly afterwards), I worked in daycare centers. While I was teaching high school and having my own kids, I fell in love with some alternative education methods - specifically, Montessori and Classical. When my children were 5, 2, and *new,* we decided that I would quit my full-time job and homeschool. For one year, I taught at our church's preschool while I studied and prepared, intending to implement a "Montessori-at-home-school." If I'm honest, that never worked as well as I hoped; something about my lack of formal training, our space, or the dynamics of our particular family prevented the Montessori approach from really thriving. We had aspects of it, though, and we reveled Read more in the freedom we had to change things up and try a new approach whenever things weren't working. Throughout that time, I also provided full-time childcare in my home for one or two children at a time. My last little one was with me from 10 weeks old until he started Pre-K this year! My own youngest child is almost ten now, and --- while I of course love being with my own kids and teaching them --- it's become obvious that my wheelhouse really is with the littles! My husband regularly says I should have gotten *that* degree in the first place! 😄 I love how every little experience is developmental and educational for young children! I love how they love to learn, how they're always striving for more independence and the ability to "do it myself!" A walk outside might be pleasant by myself, but with a toddler, we're listening to birds, looking at flowers and clouds, comparing leaves; everything becomes more fun! Years ago, I needed work I could do while simultaneously supervising and teaching my own kids. Now my kids need less direct supervision and less hands-on care with more quiet, distraction-free days. That means full-time childcare in our home is no longer a great fit for us. It also means, though, that I'm free to take occasional babysitting jobs! Any extra income always comes in handy, but I also really do love spending time with kids, giving parents peace of mind, and knowing that I'm providing something valuable to a family. I think babysitting arrangements should always be win-win-win (parents, kids, & sitter)!
