Hello! My name is Sandy and I’ve lived in Sarasota for 22yrs. now. I am married, 20yrs., with a 19yr. old daughter. I volunteered at her school throughout elementary as I was lucky enough to able to be a stay-at-home mom. My child care experience started long before I was a mom. I’m a caretaker at heart. It’s not a job, it’s a lifestyle, being a caretaker. The teenage sister of my then boyfriend, had a child and I cared for her full time for her first 3yrs. The baby actually lived with me M-F and went home on weekends. I was 22 at the time. Fast forward to 2015. Now living in Sarasota, a close friend adopted a baby girl. She was born prematurely and came home on oxygen. I also cared for her full-time while her mother worked, often keeping her at my home overnight. The family moved Read more out of state several years ago now. I also currently hold an active CNA license. A benefit that was afforded to me while I worked as a companion/caretaker for a very dear elderly couple. I was with them for about 8yrs. They were snowbirds and with the onset of Covid, they were no longer able to vacation in Florida. As I was so close to them, I found it difficult to re-enter this field. One of my passions is my horse. I keep him at a friend’s home where they have a beautiful barn. About 6 months ago, we started working with a wonderful physical therapist who comes to our barn to do Equine Therapy for severely disabled children. I don’t know about physical therapy and she doesn’t know about horses, but together, we make a wonderful team! Molly and her patients, some of whom come from out of state, come to the barn several times a month. Myself and two others volunteer our time and horses to assist with the therapy. It is incredibly satisfying. The joy some of these kids have, riding a pony! It’s not unusual to see immediate results of the therapy. Knowing that I’m part of this, helping children, enriching their lives, making happy memories. My heart just swells with joy. I’d love to have the opportunity to share my time with children again. I’m at a point in my life where I only want to spend my time doing things that are meaningful to me. I wouldn’t be happy sitting at a desk or stocking shelves. I’m a mom at heart. I’m a happy, energetic person who loves spending time out in the sunshine. I love the thrill of enriching a child’s life with new experiences, new places and fun things to do!
