Hey there! I'm Joyce, and hopefully your next sitter. I'm currently a Law Student at UF Levin of Law, but previously have always worked in childcare. My previous experience includes working at YMCA of Florida's First Coast's summer rec program with kids of all ages and abilities, 4-13. I also have ample experience with children who are emotionally, cognitively, or physically challenged. I previously worked as a one-on-one aid in an Autism-specialized classroom for grades 2-4, and understand the importance of maintaining schedules/planned transitions with these kiddos, as well as different communication methods, and behavioral deescalation. I also spent a summer as a camp counselor at Cradle Beach Camp in Angola, NY, which is a sleep-away camp for both disabled and abled kids, ages 5-16. I love spending time learning about kid's interests and imaginations and letting them show me how to play. With older kids, I'm able to provide Read more a safe environment for them to do their own thing, by respecting their boundaries and respecting yours by enforcing your rules and explaining the reasons for them if needed. I pride myself, as a young adult, on being a positive role model for your child. If your kids are crafty, we'll be a particularly great fit. I have experience with emotional regulation difficulties in kids of all ages, whether part of their normal developmental pattern or an ongoing struggle, I understand tantrums are a response to a need not being met, and I understand that reacting instead of working together to meet the need will not resolve our problem. Overall, my goal is to keep everyone safe, feeling respected, and happy-- in that order. I can tutor for an additional fee, or separately, I have a BA in History from the SUNY University at Buffalo, with a minor in Biological Anthropology. My best topics are History, Government, English/Writing, Biology, Earth Science/Science, and Algebra. I also took Mandarin Chinese for 4 years in high school and 2 in college, up to HSK 2, however, I rarely use it these days, so could probably only tutor up to HSK 1 level. Additionally, I speak basic ASL, primarily in the context of communicating with non-verbal autistic children. I have experience with wheelchair and furniture transfers, as well as other relevant ADL assistance for disabled kids/teens. Just reach out and ask about anything in particular.
