A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME... Hi! My name is Courtney. I am the oldest of four girls and I grew up in Fruit Cove, FL. I have always been a nurturer. My friends and family would describe me as an introvert who is kind, patient, thoughtful, creative, supportive, considerate, responsible, funny, organized, detail-oriented, altruistic, and a lot of fun to be around. Currently I am teaching in the mornings at an academic half-day private preschool. I am looking for work in the afternoons/early evenings. ACTIVITIES I ENJOY DOING WITH CHILDREN... I love doing so many activities with children! I can't imagine not spending my day with kids. I love just about any arts and crafts activity, playing board games, reading, cooking and baking, pretend play, building with legos, making play dough, painting, coloring, playing charades, going to tea parties, going on scavenger hunts, putting on puppet shows, building forts, going Read more on nature walks, going on bike rides, going to the playground, going on field trips, and the list just goes on and on. I love being silly with kids, but also know how to make sure that the fun we're having is safe and responsible. MY FAVORITE NANNY MOMENT... One of the children I cared for has cerebral palsy and was nonverbal when I started with the family so he struggled with communicating with his parents. I taught him and his parents ASL so they could communicate. I recorded myself on the family iPad so everyone could practice when I wasn't there. Seeing him finally be able to communicate his needs and how he was feeling was so rewarding and one of the most beautiful things I've ever been a part of. MY EXPERIENCE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN... I have a degree in Special Education and experience working with children with autism, cerebral palsy, attention deficit disorder, behavior disorders, learning disorders, as well as children who are deaf or hard of hearing and vision impaired. I have also cared for a child with Type 1 Diabetes so I am intimately familiar with monitoring blood sugar, calculating insulin dosage, and injecting insulin. I also have experience caring for a child with severe allergies. THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF BEING A NANNY... I love watching children learn and grow as individuals. Working with children is what I am most passionate about. I love teaching, guiding, playing and learning every day. Being a part of that and knowing I make a difference in the lives of the children I care for brings me so much happiness.
