My wife and I interviewed Alyssa last week and were very impressed enough that we offered her our nanny position the same day, pending the contact of her references and doing background checks. She "absolutely accepted" the position and gave us all her reference contact information. Her references gave her glowing reviews. So, then why the negative review? As part of our typical thorough background check, not only did we pay SitterCity $80 to do the check, but we also found her Facebook page, on which her main profile picture had her and her (assumed) boyfriend holding up a six pack of beer and packs of cigarettes acting like they were drunk. We were a bit shocked and so were her references when we asked them if she ever had any issues with alcohol. When they said no, we were relieved and asked them not to tell Alyssa that this would affect us hiring her. Of course they went straight to her and she then changed any "questionable" Facebook picture that were on there to something very innocent, which is fine, but now she has refused to communicate with us again, despite us trying several times to reach out to her over the past few days. Obviously, she has something to hide and also, anyone who can't appreciate a parent having the right to know what kind of person is going to be watching their child, is not someone worth being a nanny. On top of this, she could have at least be professional enough to message us to tell us that she changed her mind so that we wouldn't wait around for her. Buyer beware with this one.
