While I was growing up, my mother worked as a preschool teacher and at around twelve I started babysitting for the families of her students. Some families would request me on occasion but for two families I would look after their children certain days of the week on a regular basis. As I got to know the children better and I got older, the families began giving me more responsibility - getting the children to and from school, camp and any other activities they might’ve had. I began to overnight sit when the parents would go out of town and word spread through the school my mother worked for how much they enjoyed working with me. When I graduated high school I began attending City College of San Francisco, studying early childhood development. Throughout my college years I worked for two preschools; Bright Horizons and Rosenberg which was apart of Read more the Jewish Community Center. At Bright Horizons I worked with children as young as three months old to six years. Although I had been working with this age range since twelve, I learned a great deal in looking over children as a group and definitely gained skills and working with multiple children at once. Since I had been working with families in the past, I had really only worked with siblings. This gave me a great opportunity to learn how to work with children who came from different walks of life. The same can be said about my time at Rosenberg. However, the ages there range from two to six years old. Since it was a Jewish school and I come from a Jewish background, I was really able to connect with my students as well as their families. It was at Rosenberg I learned the importance of having a good relationship with the not only the children but the families as well. I have spent years learning everything I can about early childhood development and implement it into how I look after the child or children I am responsible for. I understand the importance of keeping them healthy and safe but also know it is important for them to learn, and have different experience as they grow. In all my years of childcare I’ve learned to be a major role in their upbringing, making sure to incorporate not only what their families want but what they need as well. Working as a child caregiver is more than just a career I chose, I feel I was meant to do it. As I mentioned earlier, my mother was and is still now a teacher and that has definitely influenced who I am today. Thank you! Please feel free to ask me anything!
