I am currently writing my dissertation for my PhD so my schedule is extremely flexible. I spend my free time volunteering as a birth doula at St Luke's Hospital and San Francisco General Hospital. My experience with children varies widely. I began baby-sitting at the age of 14 years old and baby-sat for about two years. Also at 14 I started as a camp counselor for children of ages 8-13. During this time I was also a lifeguard for the children while we were at the pool and did a large number of games, arts and crafts with the children. When I was a senior in high school I worked as an assistant at a kindergarten and tutored English to Hispanic elementary school children for a year while I was in college. I also worked as a preschool assistant in Costa Rica while taking classes to learn Spanish, my Spanish Read more is currently at a fairly intermediate level. After graduating from college I taught English to children of ages 8 and older (including adults) while in China for three years. Due to this I also speak Mandarin Chinese at a fairly intermediate level, meaning I can communicate almost everything I want to and understand even more than that. After that time I came back to the US and trained as a doula for about 6 months. I also worked full-time as a babysitter in Chicago for a year prior to starting my PhD and continued working as a babysitter on the side while in Ann Arbor, MI. So I have experience with almost every age possible and very much enjoy being around children.
