Over the past 15 years I have worked with children and teenagers in various capacities including care giving, education, counseling, and advocacy. I have worked in a variety of educational settings (charter, public, Title-1 and private schools), and have worked with kids and families and in homes of all backgrounds. Those I have worked with have had a wide range of learning, social, and emotional differences, (including those with ADHD, on the Autism Spectrum, those considered "high risk," - just to name a few), so I am able to adapt and respond to all. I have been able to fuse my background in education and psychology to ensure each child always feels supported as an individual, emotionally, socially and academically. I am able to provide a nurturing environment and meet the demands of a caregiver, mentor and educator, while also being clear with expectations and maintaining a structured, safe environment. Read more I have been successful at individualizing my interactions with families, which has proved to create a solid foundation to develop strong bonds and common goals. With all that said, I am a fun, down to Earth, energetic person and always looking for new ways to interact with kids. I love arts and crafts, music/dancing/theatre, reading, scavenger hunts, swimming, picnics - anything that gets us all having fun together... I am far from the type of person to plop kids in front of a TV - I like to engage! Due to my extensive background in education, I am also available for all tutoring needs and feel very comfortable with homework help. Aside from direct child-care I provide household duty services, as well. In previous positions I have ran errands, (everything from banking and grocery shopping to taking kids to get holiday photos), cooked (I'm a great cook!), cleaned, organized, helped with in-home events - you name it! Now a little "non-professional" information about me: I currently live in Lafayette after many years in Southern California and the East Coast. I have a Masters degree from USC in teaching and education and a bachelors degree from SDSU in psychology. In my off time, I enjoy cooking/baking, reading, traveling, concerts, spending time at the beach, and going on adventures with my little doggy. I am close to my family and love spending time with them, especially with my new nephew! I look forward to meeting a family that is seeking a positive, responsible, up-beat person to join them - after all; it takes a village, right?
