Meet April

  • Speaks Sign Language
  • Comfortable with pets
  • Has a car

I have been a nanny for over 15 years and have great love and appreciation for children. I have worked with infants up to preteens. I also am very good at keeping up with the house, laundry, and cooking. Taking the children out on walks, reading stories, playing at the parks, visiting libraries and pet stores, going to the museum and other activities is also part of my nanny experience. I am CPR certified and knowledgeable about health, nutrition, and american sign language.

April was punctual to the interview. One of the things that stood out to me the most about April was her passion and enthusiasm for working as a nanny. She seemed energetic and had a caring and easy-going personality. April also maintained good communication via text and email during and after our interview. She is polite and her schedule seemed very flexible.

Im writing this review for April based on the interview we were able to have with her. She replied to our job interview offer shortly after we contacted her. She kept communicating with us, via messages, until we were able to meet. That gave us time to exchange some questions and answers before we met. She arrived right on time and was very polite during the interview. As soon as she entered our home she interacted with the children in an engaging and fun way. She shoed lots of enthusiasm and interest in the job we had to offer. We loved the idea of her knowing and being able to teach sign language, since we have little children who are not always able to communicate with spoken language. Also, our older child is very curious and eager to learn new things. She is very flexible with her schedule, which will work great for full or part time needs.

April babysat for us a couple of times. She was very nice, but late one of those times by about an hour. It was ok because we only had dinner plans so we called on her again. This time she requested to store her belongings in our garage while she was moving. That really made us uneasy as we don't really know her. It was weird. We also found out that she hadn't been so nice to our daughter, and our daughter reported being scared of her. I'm sorry, but cannot recommend this particular caregiver.

April and I were text messaging on Friday to make arrangements for a sitting job this Monday morning, October 17. She seemed really on the ball when we were texting: she inquired whether she needed to bring lunch, whether she could take my baby out on walks, and what our caregiving preferences were. She even offered to come a little bit early so she can get acquainted with the baby. Unfortunately, ten minutes before she was supposed to arrive, she texted me to say that she just woke up because she didn't hear her alarm clock. Then she asked whether it was "too late" for her to show up at 11 or 11:30. Seeing that my husband and I bought studio tour tickets for 10:30, it was too late to offer to come at 11. This also meant that we could not get a sitter at the last minute. So we are basically relinquishing the costs of the tickets and are now left without a sitter. This was also supposed to be the one morning when my husband and I could have a 'date' - we're both so busy with work that making plans to go out by hiring a sitter is a rarity. If April is reading this, April, please know that I think you're sweet but you were incredibly unprofessional. Saying that maybe "your cat" reset your alarm isn't going to cut it. The next time you apply for sitting jobs, remember that parents actually rely on sitters to show up when they say they will.
