My childcare experience began growing up when my mother was a foster parent to over 35 special needs kids throughout the years. I had the honor and benefit of getting to learn from the greatest, most patient caretaker I know. I learned to adapt my method of care to the child and to not try to apply the same methods to every child because every child is unique. When I became old enough, I started babysitting as much as I could. There were a lot of families within my church that I babysat for and when I turned 17, one of those families hired me full time as a nanny. I stayed with that family for three years and for the birth of two of their three children. That position taught me to balance the care of varying age groups but still creatively engaging each child. Since then, in my Read more almost 10 years of professional nanny experience, I have worked for a few more families, all long term, and with children ranging in age from newborn to 11 years of age. I have been with my most recent family for nearly three years and am truly saddened to be leaving them. The economy has finally caught up with them and they can no longer afford to keep me on. They have two lovely twin boys, now 4 years old. I have been responsible for their meals, picking them up from preschool and driving them to activities, doing crafts and science projects, and engaging their minds through educational play. We have a lot of games that we love to play that are not only a lot of fun but that are teaching them social and mental skills as we play.
