Hello! My name is Marielle (Ellie for short) Alexander and I am currently a 20 year old college student at California State University San Marcos. I'm pursuing a bachelor's in psychological sciences and have always been passionate about caring for others. I've been babysitting for families around Carlsbad since I was in high school, and I also have a summer job as a kids camp counselor with the City of Carlsbad. As my counseling included watching over and entertaining up to 20 five to seven year olds at a time, I'm very skilled at dealing with the hectic energy of children and channeling it in more productive and exciting ways for them. I designed art activities and games for the kids, instructed them, and accompanied them on field trips around the city. I worked primarily with younger children during camps but I enjoy working with all age groups. My background Read more in psychology has strengthened my general knowledge of child and adolescent developmental stages, so I'm able to adapt to the individual needs of kids at every stage in life. I am CPR certified and have experience dealing with common injuries and food sensitivities/allergies. As my summer camp experience rendered me a mandated reporter, I also have training in assessing the safety of children and being a source of communication and comfort for them. What matters to me most in working with kids is being a figure of stability and happiness for them, and I aim to give every child the patience and support they deserve. I still have part time employment with the city in Parks and Recreation, which I balance with my college classes. With the start of my new semester, I will be working Tuesday/Thursday nights and Sunday mornings at Pine Avenue Community Center. My availability with babysitting is mostly weekend and Friday nights, but I am absolutely willing to be flexible when it comes to the week nights I'm not working and will always communicate my availability!
