I’m a college senior graduating in December with my BS in psychology, and then I’ll be heading to graduate school! I’ve got 4+ years experience in childcare and nannying, and although I’ve worked with all kinds of children, special needs is my speciality, particularly autism, ADHD, and epilepsy. I’m currently looking for short-term work or occasional/date night sitting, since I intend to look for a job in my field after December. My nannying style is firm but gentle; if a child is throwing a tantrum, I will focus on calming them down and talking to them about what they’re feeling rather than punishment, but without caving to their demands. Kids usually have a reason for what they do, even if it seems irrational, so I try to reframe “bad behavior” as “big feelings they’re unable to express healthily” and encourage emotional intelligence and regulation. But, most of all, I like Read more for kids to have fun! Some of my own hobbies are reading (I’m a huge book nerd!), history, photography, coloring, and dance, but obviously every kid is different. I love more calm activities like coloring, reading, play-dough, baking cookies, and imaginary play. But I also love getting kids outside and exploring the world - outdoor scavenger hunts, science experiments, swimming, bike rides, and obstacle courses are all great activities. Working with kids is one of the most challenging, exciting, chaotic, rewarding, and fun things there is. Even when I leave sweaty and exhausted after long days, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Getting to be a part of your child’s life is an incredible privilege that I value so much.
