Hi! I’m Sam. I’m 29 and originally from Atlanta. I have over a decade of experience working with kids of all ages and abilities in a variety of settings. I graduated from the University of Miami in 2016 with a degree in Creative Advertising, Studio Art, and Marketing and joined Teach for America where I taught a self-contained K-5 class for students with autism. Since then, I’ve taught special education classes for students from Pre-K through 6th grade. I’m currently substitute teaching for Huntsville City while I finish my M.Ed in Special Education. I also work in First Christian Church's nursery, caring for kids up to three during church events and services. In addition to having a previous teaching license for K-12 Special Education in North Carolina for General and Adapted Curricula, I’ve completed certifications through the Red Cross in Infant, Child, and Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid. After Read more spending thirteen years as a Girl Scout, I decided to further my knowledge of first aid and became a certified first responder with UMiami’s Canes Emergency Response Team. I've also worked with students between Pre-K and 12th grade at two different STEM education companies in Florida and Alabama, writing curricula, planning camps and courses, and teaching different subjects like math, STEM exploration, 3D printing, fashion design, Survivor, and more. I've also taught art. I have experience with boys and girls of all ages from newborns to teenagers and I am comfortable watching multiple children at a time. I spent the summer of 2014 working full time as a nanny watching five kids between the ages of four and twelve. I am comfortable working with children of all ages and abilities. I really enjoy being creative and coming up with fun activities that will be educational and fun. I am more than happy to help with homework, be around pets, help around the house, and take the kids on (approved) outings to pools or other places. I have experience working with kids who are nonverbal, have complex medical needs, use AAC devices, or have other unique support needs. I'm a trained special education legal advocate and I provide services supporting families through the special education referral process and beyond. In my free time, I love volunteering, photography, singing, acting, studying Spanish and ASL, and teaching kids how to do new things.
