Hello! My name is Alexis, and I am the oldest of 4, including an autistic younger sister. All my life I took part in raising them and was your typical, responsible, protective, and FUN big sister. I volunteered with many programs including special equestrians and the humane Society, as I have a love of animals as well as a background in veterinary medicine. In addition to caring for children and animals, I was also fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to care for my grandparents who lived with us for the last 3 years of their lives. It was difficult, but I wouldn't give it up for the world. I am certified in first aid and CPR, and have a natural ability to remain calm, focused, and in control during emergencies or high-stress situations. One of the things I really enjoy is getting to know each child as an individual and their dynamics within the family as well as the outside world. Children are little humans and should be treated as such. They deserve respect, attention, and being not just listened to, but heard, so they know their voices are important, which I find helps a lot when it comes to why they misbehave and gives you a better look into how to handle the situation rather than a "one size fits all" punishment. It also fosters their self esteem and promotes individuality. I've also found it helps gain their trust, which is critical. Another thing I like to do is share their interests and incorporating them into play time and using them as educational tools, instead of having a uniform approach to teaching and study time. Taking interest in their worlds validates them and makes them more willing to open up to new experiences like food, learning about other cultures, and forming bonds with siblings and classmates. I look forward to helping your family in whatever capacity you may need! P.s. I've been known to change my hair to fun colors from time to time! The kids LOVE it, plus sometimes I've told them it gives me powers! For example, my blue hair gave me the power of truth. I couldn't lie and I could tell when they were lying. My mermaid had gave me the power of strength and humor. I could protect them from anything, scare away monsters, and could make anyone giggle. But that's more of a parents preference 😜
